Coach’s Corner January 2010
Happy New Year and welcome to 2010 to all of our Sharks Families. I am very pleased to report that we finished off the 2009 year in great fashion, with many new standards set by our swimmers. We wrapped up 2009 with our own Feeding Frenzy meet that was, yet again, a successful event put on by the Sharks. Thank you to all of our families for helping to make that another great event for our team. Following that weekend, our swimmers competed in the Holiday Championship meets, with the 12 and younger swimmers competing at the SEVA meet at Fort Eustis, and our 13 and older swimmers traveling to Cary, North Carolina for the RSA Reindeer meet. At all of our holiday meets, our athletes really left their mark on 2009 for the Sharks and put our team in great position heading into the second half of the Short Course Season.
So far this season, our swimmers have set 20 new team records. This is quite an accomplishment since we still have several meets remaining, including our championship meets beginning in February. The records also continue to get faster and faster, making them harder to break, but as always, our athletes keep rising to the challenge and setting new standards. As a result of so many great performances, our team finished off 2009 ranked 15th out of 43 teams in Virginia, 102nd out of 588 in the Eastern Zone, and 332nd out of 2,216 in the nation, which puts us in the top 15% of USA Swimming Clubs in the country! That really is a great accomplishment for our team and our swimmers deserve tremendous credit for their ongoing hard work that continues to move the Sharks up in the rankings each year – great job!
With such a great finish to the year, I am very excited about the remainder of our Short Course Season. We look forward to many more great swims and plenty of new record-setting performances. GO SHARKS!
See you at the pool,
Stu Faux
